Background
In Autumn 2001 the first ‘Worship
Released’ event was held at Zion Christian Centre, Halesowen. A group
of singers, musicians and worship leaders from a variety of churches attended
the event which was designed to equip them with the skills they needed in leading
and supporting corporate worship. Both practical and spiritual of praise and
worship were covered by means of workshops & seminars led by Richard Lewis,
a well-known and gifted worship leader.
The aim was for the delegates to
return to their churches and use what they had learnt to better ‘release’
themselves and others to worship God. The training day was repeated in 2002
but during the intervening year, it became clear that there is a real need to
support those involved in leading & supporting worship in their own churches.
So, shortly after, the name ‘Worship Released’ was adopted by Mark
Oakes (one of the co-organisers of the training events) and a group of others
with a view toward expanding the ministry to meet this need.
God has spoken prophetically to members
of the team regarding Worship and Evangelism and over the last few months, the
‘Worship Released’ team has expanded and the Lord has begun to bless
us financially. This encouragement has clarified the vision of Worship Released
for the future.
Why Worship Released?
God desires our worship. So often we are entangled and wrapped up with so
many different things that stop us from worshipping the one who made us, loves
us and who sent his own son to die for us. Worship Released aim to encourage,
motivate and equip other Christians and those who aren’t to worship God.
How do we minister?
-
To existing
church congregations, by leading or hosting worship services/celebrations/events.
-
To people directly
involved with worship leading, i.e. Leaders, Musicians, Vocalists, P.A,
etc, by hosting worship seminar days/conferences.
-
By providing a resource to Christians on the Internet. www.worshipreleased.com
will provide access to a wide range of praise and worship related material.
Are
we are a worship band?
Yes… and no! While we are
a worship band, we believe that using the banner of “Worship Released”
allows us to have much more scope for growth and change. ‘Growth’
in the sense that others can own and share our vision and ‘change’
in the sense that we can move on to other things easily as God leads us.
This enables us to take out the
‘personality’ side of who we are which surely must help people
to focus more on God. We know that there are many Christian bands that minister
effectively to people as God uses them. We pray God will continue to bless
them.
Being ‘in’ the world
but not ‘of it’ can be difficult and it is all too easy for people
to sometimes want the fame and status that a ‘band’ can bring
(look at how popular Popstars, Pop Idol and Fame Academy are!) While we definitely
do want ‘Worship Released’ to mean modern, relevant scripturally-sound
worship, for us we don’t feel that operating as a ‘band’
is the best approach.
Who do we minister to ?
Whether it’s individual or
corporate worship, we aim to provide a service that will help Christians worship
God. We have been blessed by our involvement with worship and want to pass
on the experiences that we have had.
Our heart’s desire is also
to see people in this world who are not in relationship with Jesus, encounter
his presence through worship and enter into a relationship with him. We will
strive with passion & commitment to see this achieved!
Who
are Worship Released?
The people behind Worship Released
are ordinary everyday people. These people are worshippers who have a desire
to see the name of Jesus lifted high in praise.
Four people act as a leadership
team, overseeing the ministry & its day to day running along with a dynamic
team of musicians who have been involved in worship for a number of years.
They are all gifted people who love to serve each other and God. In the future,
we see other teams of musicians operating under the banner of Worship Released.
So, Worship Released will grow
to become a community embracing those who will join and support the vision.
That is exciting!
