Worship Released

Hi there everyone, Im sure James and Simon won't mind me sharing this.

We were in the middle of a prayer meeting, we were praying for healing for different people, when one of the Deacons prayed for Mr Piggin who is recovering from an illness, the deacon continued to pray

AND LORD WE PRAY FOR THE REST OF THE PIGGIN FAMILY! amen.

There was a few giggles and styfled laughter going on I can tell you!

Our band was asked to lead worship at a big church one Sunday morning and my co-leader was feeling a bit of pressure. He wanted to ask the congregation to stand and worship with us, but in his fluster, missed out a crucial word and boomed into the mic, for 1000 people to hear, "Please stand and worship us".

There was a stunned silence....

That is so funny, my son somtimes leads worship, I can just imagine it. Bet the angelic host were rolling in the aisles!!

Oh my goodness...that is soo hilarious, but I bet super embaressing for your friend I would imagine!!! After everyone got past the initial silence from being shocked by what he said, did they start to laugh when they realized the mistake?

Nah, he just rolled on and pretended it never happened. We gave him plenty of stick later though.

On another occasion, I attempted to half bound up the front steps of the stage. Halfway up, got my foot stuck on some sticky upturned gaffer tape, felt flat on my face, bum in the air and struggled for what seemed like hours, to unentangle myself. The rest of the band (consumate professionals that they are) just stood there and stared at me - which meant the congregation followed suit. Finally, a lovely man nearby came to my rescue and helped me get free - but the damage was already done.

Months later, we were at another church and nearly hysterical with laughter, a man attempted to tell me the story of how he was once at this service where this poor girl got tangled up in the gaffer tape and it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen....

Oh flip...I'm on a roll now.

Not strictly a 'worship' moment, but one which occured just after a worship event. We were selling CDs straight afterwards and someone I recognised as the church's pastor came up and asked me if we took cheques. At that moment, one of the band (standing next to me) leans back and whispers in my ear, "Don't give him one, he's a sociopath".

Huh? That made no sense at all...so I continued my conversation with the pastor and was just about to accept his cheque when band-mate says again (through gritted teeth), "I said...don't give him one, he's a sociopath". I'm completely flummoxed at this point, so I make my excuses to the pastor and tell my band-mate that he can deal with the sale.

Later, I corner band-mate; "what were you playing at?? What did you mean when you said he was a sociopath? You made that really difficult for me..."

Band-mate looks at me, completely agog and then light dawns;

"I didn't say he was a sociopath, you dope", he says. "I said, "You can give him one, he's the associate pastor".

At least the guy with the gaffa tape story didn't recognise you!

Thanks all for these stories... they really brightened my day.... glad no one else was in the office this lunch time for all the laughter!

Two 'experiences' spring to mind..... The first one is more of a lesson.

I was leading the worship band to sing, "Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise". The minister introduced it and we set off, all was well until half way through the first line when the words to a totally differnt song were up on the screen, that just happened to start with "great is the lord",(this was ALL my fault). Everyone froze.... glances all round!

And here is the lesson, the Minister, (a true proffesional) turned to the congregation and said, "on second thoughts, lets all sit for this one and listen to the worship group who will play and sing, "great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise". Wow what a recovery, and all went smoothly from then on.

The second incident occured when a freind took me to a mid week bible study at his spirit filled, charasmatic church, (not that theres anything wrong with them). During the prayers, the Lord was moving and someone had a song in their head..... so the started singing:
"knowing you jesus, knowing you...."

and we all joined in....

"there is no greater thing, you're my all, you're the best, your my joy my rightousness, and i love you lord".

Then no one seemed to be able to connect this chorus with any verses that fit. We all knew the tune but no one knew the words! Most people hummed while a couple of people tried to make up some lyrics to fit, others just picked the words from a song they did know and tried to make them fit... very badly.

Everyone fell about laughing and any work atmosphere destroyed!!

I still smirk everytime i hear that song even though it must have been about 10 years ago.

We've had this happen where the first 2 verses are the same but the third verse was completely different.

We had just started using the projection software, and because we pick songs literally just before the service (or even during it) we didn't have chance to spot the problem.


And yes we have 2 versions of 'Great is the Lord' as well

Also The Source has 3 different songs called "Jesus, lover of my soul" - 2 of which are quite good

These are the dangers of changing to a new system and assuming all will always go well!

A tale from Christmas a few years back when we were still using acetates and an OHP. In the carol "Hark the herald angels sing", someone had missed the last letter off one of the words in the second verse, so on Christmas morning we all sang out loudly....

"Christ by highest heav'n adored
CHRIS the everlasting Lord..."

There's only one guy in our congregation called Chris - but I don't think he was to blame for this particular typographical error....

On another occasion, we actually had "Shout for joy and sin" instead of "Shout for joy and sing"...

Ah... the good old days....
